(no subject)

I had to get up at 5:45 AM in order to make an important phone call to Deal With A Thing.

I think I deserve a gold star for Getting Things Done.

(The Thing is not actually dealt with; I had to send in some documentation. Which means that at some point I'm going to have to get up at 5:45 AM again to make another phone call.)

You know, this kind of nonsense is not something I ever expected to encounter in life. Ah, well.

[Music] Sabaton: "Legends" (upcoming)

Sabaton has announced a new album, Legends, due to be released in October. This is a different turn from their more recent WWI-themed albums; Legends reaches back further in time, exploring "legendary" figures from various periods in history, from the ancient world to the Napoleonic Wars. Four of the songs are already up on their Bandcamp.

For a while now I've hoped that they would tackle some earlier historical subjects - I did like the WWI stuff, but it's a pretty big world out there. So I'm excited that this new album is going to have more variety.

Some of the subjects are obvious based on song title, but others not so much; luckily for us the subject is listed under the lyric pages for each song on Sabaton's website (here)

[Manga] Various Death Note thoughts

I promised some Death Note thoughts, as I recently finished reading the series. My brain's a little mush, but I do want to jot some things down while it's still relatively fresh, so some point-form thoughts below.

- This series has been very popular for a while, but I'd never read it before. I wanted to see what the fuss was about, even though I'm coming in kind of late. Very slowpoke.jpg I suppose you could say.

Tl;dr I found Death Note solidly all right. Not my favourite series ever, but I can see why it was so popular, and I did enjoy reading it and would in fact read more if there was more (I've already read the Short Story collection). Maybe I'll check out the anime too? Who knows!

Stuff I did over the past few days

- Paid off my mortgage
- Finished reading Death Note for the first time (an entry will happen about that later, hopefully)
- Played a few rounds of Go after not doing so for ages, losing to the computer every time per usual
- Moved my paints to an easier-to-access place, which will hopefully make it easier for me to actually sit down and paint some things later
- Signed up for Iddy Iddy Bang Bang
- Worked on a WIP
- Did research for said WIP because I was stuck on some details, found out that I won't need to fix as many things as I'd thought
- Contemplated a trip to Victoria in August, looked up prices, immediately remembered why I never go to major tourist destinations in the summer, decided to ixnay that idea. I'll probably take some time off but just stay home instead. (Maybe I'll go in February or something...)

[Music] Bad Haggis - 'Ventania'

Heard a lovely song in Portuguese on the radio the other day: "Ventania" by Bad Haggis. [Youtube]

I'm not familiar with the band, but they've been around a while. Their stuff is a fusion of Celtic with other genres - jazz, rock, various world styles, you name it.

"Ventania" is from the album Wine Dark Sea, which is specifically centred around a Latin-Celtic fusion concept. I'm definitely going to need to check out more of it, because I'm really liking this one.
