I always noticed that, before the wreck of RMS Titanic was discovered in 1985 to be broken in two, and the general thought was the ship sank intact, they really meant 'intact'. Like... to the point where previous films showed Titanic sinking with all funnels and rigging attached. The infamous Raise the Titanic movie takes it even further by showing a 'raised' Titanic almost completely intact, sans the second funnel of course.

I find it interesting really, because what if the ship did sink in one piece? Would things have been different? James Cameron can still have Jack and Rose smooching at the bow during sunlight, but the iconic 'break-up' scene probably would be lost forever.

But also think the 'intact' scenario ignores certain things, like the stern being full of air that would've probably imploded underneath all that immense sea pressure and the rudder. I say the rudder because then the ship's descent would have been wrangled by the bow being streamlined and the rudder being pushed around by water currents.

Either way, the ship's impact at the sea's floor would be still destructive regardless.
